National League results

In the first round of the National League in Templemore last Sun Bandon were represented by a womens team in the Premier Division and in the men’s first division Bandon joined forces with Abbey Striders to form a combined team.
Both teams had a very youthful look and a number of athletes making their first appearance in this competition.
For the womens team some of the individual results were;
Laura McSweeney 1st in the Shot Putt and 2nd in the Hammer, Rachel Roche 1st in the Javelin
Kate Bernard 1st in the 200m, Carla Hicks 1st in the Pole Vault and 3rd in the Triple Jump, both relay team’s were 2nd, Fiona Everard 2nd in both the 1,500m and 800m, Fiona Duggan 2nd in the Discus, Eva Stack 3rd in the Long Jump and 3rd in the 100m.
When the points were added up, it leaves Bandon currently in 9th place and needing a good 2nd round if they are to make the final as only the top8 team will progress to the final.
For the mens team some of the individual results were;
Promise Okafor was 1st in the Triple Jump, 1st in the Long Jump and 6th in the 200m, Patrick McSweeney won the Hammer and the Shot Putt, Bobby Smith won the Javelin, Thomas McCarthy was 2nd in the 800m, Ronan Duggan was and 2nd in the SteepleChase and 3rd in the 1500m, Daniel Hathaway was 5th in the 100m. These performances leave Bandon/Abbey Striders in 3rd place at the end of the 1st round and another similar performance should see the team progress to the final.

Well done to everyone involved.
