Liam’s cycling adventures!

Liam O’Reilly is undertaking the toughest amateur cycle race in the world to help raise funds for our track development.

Liam a lifelong member and friend of Bandon AC since a early age is undertaking a major cycling challenging to help with our fundraising to help Build our TRACK.

Liam will undertake the Haute Route alps Challenge starting on August 22nd and compete over 7 days similar to the tour de France 🇫🇷. The Haute Route Alps is the toughest amateur cycling race in the world, full of bucket list climbs made famous by the Tour de France. A host of cols over 2,000m above sea level and a total cycling distance of 800km.
Liam’s father Michael is one of the founding members of Bandon AC. Liam has competed at the international stage, and has gone onto coaching Rob Heffernan World race walking Champion and bronze Olympic medalist.

Sports on Sunday 8th – Covid Declaration form

Due to current covid restrictions and guidelines, everyone attending the sports on Sunday will need to complete a covid online form.

This should take less than 5mins. You must complete a separate form for each participant.

When on site at the Sports, please adhere to all standard processes/procedures regarding infection control. i.e. social distancing, hand washing / hand sanitising and general coughing / sneezing etiquette. All data on the is form is collected with your consent for the sole purpose intended and in line with Bandon AC’s GDPR policy and privacy statement.

Events will start at 10:00am.

Due to Covid restrictions, all age groups will compete in waves, with each group on site for 1 hours or 90mins depending on events. All athletes will be requested to leave the area as soon as practical after finishing.

More details available on the published timetable.

Events for u8,u9,u10,u11 are strictly restricted to members of Bandon AC.

 

Parking will be available in St Brogans school, please ensure all cars are parked safely and locked securely.

Access to the town park will be available at the Soccer club entrance near St Brogans and also at the top gate of the town park.

Entrance fee for all competitors will €5.

Max of 1 adult to accompany a Juvenile athlete.

 

All athletes and spectators are required to follow covid guidelines will regard to social distancing, hand sanitizing and  cough etiquette.

Everyone will be required to compete a covid form prior to entry to the town park.

Please bear with us, we will have everything sorted in plenty time.
Currently we expect people will pre-register to confirm attendance for covid restrictions and people will pay on the day.

Age groups will be requested to leave as soon as practical after all the events for that age are completed.

Bandon AC Dash to Tokyo

Bandon AC families…we need your help.
We are just commencing our first fundraiser towards developing our track and want to get the kids and all the family involved in this one.

Its called *Bandon AC Dash to Tokyo*.

How it works is:
* All families should have received the explanation and a sponsorship card last week at training. If not, you can get one at training any night.
* We would love if the kids can get as much sponsorship as possible over the coming weeks.
* Starting this Saturday 10 July until 20 July, we want to get all families out active each day … running, walking, cycling or any activity that’s fun!
* Please total the km for the full family each day and whatsapp or text to 0872288509 along with any fun photos of everyone getting active! These will be added up each day and we will publish on social media including how far we have travelled and keep the kids updated at training.
* Our target is to travel the full distance from Bandon to Tokyo in time for the Olympics where our own Phil Healy will be doing the club proud!

As this is for a great cause that will benefit all of our members in the future we really appreciate your participation and support!

Important info : Munster U12 to U19 T&F Championships

Dear All,

In preparation for the Munster U12 to U19 T&F Championships this weekend please see instructions below and attached maps regarding parking and flow of athletes within the stadium. I have made one change to the timetable concerning the Javelin competitions as there were clashes with Shot Putt.
The order of ages and their times have changed. Revised timetable here… Please check Munster Site for any further updates

VENUE DETAILS

The Child Officers for the weekend are Tim Fitzpatrick, Liscarroll A.C., Paul Askins, Dooneen and Aine Moran, Dooneen A.C.
The Covid Officers are Albert Doyle, Clonmel A.C. and John McGrath, West Waterford A.C.
Track and Field Referees for Saturday are Karl O’Connell, Blarney Inniscara A.C. and Padraig Kelly, Ballincollig A.C.
Track and Field Referees for Sunday are Karl O’Connell, Blarney Inniscara A.C. and Michael Godley, ,Tralee Harriers A.C.

Officials, Athletes and Club Team Managers who want to gain entry to MTU need to complete the Covid Questionnaire BEFORE attending the venue. The link is available on the Munster website and at the end of this e-mail.
There will be just one entrance over the weekend for officials, athletes and Club team managers. This will be the covered entrance that leads up to the back of the stands (see map attached). Gate keepers will have a list of all people eligible for entry. If you are not on the list, you will not gain entry.
Entry for athletes, officials and team managers only. No spectators or parents allowed.
A number of Childrens’ Ambassadors have been appointed for the weekend. They will assist any athletes who need help with starts, field marks etc. Officials will also be on hand to assist any athlete who needs help.
There will be no refreshment facilities/shop available onsite.
Parking will be available at MTU. See map attached.We hope to have toilet facilities available to parents. I will confirm this later.
Live results will be available on the day at live.munsterathletics.com. Results will also be posted online on the Munster Athletics website.

ATHLETES

Athletes should report to the venue no more than 30 minutes before their event is scheduled. Warm up will be permitted in designated areas on the track. Team Managers will allocate them with their numbers.
Athletes should bring a face mask and wear it when entering the venue and collecting their numbers and when in close contact with others. They should also bring hand sanitizer and avail of the hand sanitizer available onsite.
Athletes in the throws events should, where possible, bring their own implements and towels. There will be a certain amount of implements available for athletes who don’t bring their own.
All implements have to be weighed in before the competition. Please ask when checking in and you will be directed to the weigh in area.
For Field events, athletes must remain inside the competition zone at all times during the competition. Any athlete that leaves the competition zone, will be disqualified. That includes approaching the perimeter fence during competition.
At no time are officials at the finish line or at field events to be approached enquiring about performances
Athletes have been allocated with the same number for Day 2 so please ensure that you keep your number for the competition on 17th and 18th July.
Medals will be available for collection by medal winners on the day (for Field events at the site and track events at the finish line) but there will be no medal presentations.
Once an athlete has completed their event they must leave the premises to ensure covid compliance. Gate for exit is between the stand and the red brick building(see map attached).

TEAM MANAGERS

Numbers can be collected by Team Managers at the back of the main stand on both days.
Team Managers are on site to distribute numbers to their athletes and direct them to their competitions at the appropriate times from their dedicated area in the stand. Team Managers are not allowed to leave the confines of the stands. Athletes must warm up on their own without team managers.
Each Club is allowed a maximum of two team managers on site at any one time. If they need to change over to two further team managers, this must take place outside the gate and the new members must be on the gate keepers list.

Reminder of the appropriate use of masks

Do:

• Clean your hands properly before you put it on

• Cover your mouth and nose with it and make sure there are no gaps between your cloth face covering

• Carry unused masks in a sealable clean waterproof bag (for example, a ziplock bag)

• Carry a second similar type bag to put used masks in

To remove it correctly:

• Remove it from behind – do not touch the front of the mask

• Do not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth

• Clean your hands properly

• Put disposable masks in a bin straight away

Don’t:

• Touch a mask or face covering while wearing it – if you do, clean your hands properly

• Use a damp or wet mask or reuse a mask

• Lower your mask to speak, eat and smoke or vape – if you need to uncover your nose or mouth, take the mask off and put it in the bag for used masks

• Don’t use your scarf instead; pulling a scarf up and down over your mouth and nose is not effective

A tribute to Billy

Billy Gòod was a most respected person on the Irish Athletics scene.
He started his involvement in athletics as a highly successful athlete in the sixties, also finding time to set up his beloved Bandon AC.
He held officership at club, division, county , provincial and national levels. He was selfless and thorough in all projects he undertook. No task was too small for Billy and he was as happy cutting the grass and lining the track in the Town Park, preparing and undoing cross-country courses, collecting for funds as he was officiating as race director or chief judge and timekeeper at major athletics events or being a keen debater at National Congress.
He has a driving force in the successes of the club over the years and in setting in motion the groundwork for the new all weather track which, alas, he will not get the chance to enjoy.

Billy would have been very proud on this weekend where the club won 3 gold medals at the National Junior championships.
Despite his illness in recent weeks , he was always following the progress of club members at the many events taking place and on developments relating to the new track.

From a personal point of view I was so lucky to have enjoyed a wonderful friendship with Billy over the years as we travelled the length and breadth of the country to competitions and meetings. He was a true gentleman.

My sympathies to Mathilda his wife and his sons Clive, Mervyn, David and extended Good family at this difficult time.

Ni bheidh a leitheid aris ann.

Guard of Honour

As a mark of respect to founding member and club President Billy Good, there will be no club training on Monday 21st
The club will be partaking in two guard of honours on Monday 21st.
Prior to the service at St Peters church there will be a guard of honour, and people who wish to partake in this should assemble at 2pm on the Chapel St entrance.
After the service the funeral procession will pass the Town Park. Please start assembling at 3:15pm at the usual entrance.
Please if possible to wear club colours.

Billy Good R.I.P.

It is with great sadness that we have lost one of Bandon AC’s original founding members and esteemed President Billy Good who passed away earlier today.
Our sympathies to Mathilda his wife and his sons Clive, Mervyn, David and extended Good family.

As a mark of respect the West Cork uneven ages due to be held in MTU tomorrow have been POSTPONED until a future date.
