A number of Bandon AC athletes \trepresenting their various schools competed on the first day of the South \tMunster Schools Track and Field Championships at CIT on May 6th<\/sup>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sipke Shaughnessy won the senior boys 400m hurdles. Patrick McSweeney won \tbronze in the senior boys shot.\u00a0 In the junior competition Colin Kingston \twon the discus and shot.<\/span><\/p>\n

The May Bank holiday weekend was a \tbusy one for athletes with the County Track and Field Championships being \theld on Sunday 2nd<\/sup> May followed by the Munster Junior, U23 and \tSenior Track and Field Championships on Monday May 3rd<\/sup> both at \tthe CIT track. Bandon athletes put in some fine performances on both days. \tLaura McSweeney who competed at U16 level the previous day won the junior <\/span>women shot with Tracey Bradfield coming \tin fourth place.\u00a0 Lyn Bradfield also competed.\u00a0 Joan Healy won the junior \twomen 100m and 200m.\u00a0 Tracey Bradfield came fourth in the discus with Laura \tMcSweeney and Lyn Bradfield also competing. At U23 level, R\u00f3is\u00edn Howard won \tthe high jump and won silver in the 400m and the shot. Rachel Roche won the \tjavelin, came third in the discus and fourth in the shot.<\/span><\/p>\n

The senior women\u2019s team won the relay.\u00a0 Liz \tCoomey won the senior women high jump, came third in the shot and fourth in \tthe discus. Priscilla O\u2019Sullivan won silver in the shot, discus and hammer.\u00a0 \tPatrick McSweeney won the weight for distance and came second in the shot, \tfourth in the hammer and fifth in discus.\u00a0 Ronan Duggan won the silver medal \tthe U23 men\u2019s 1500m.\u00a0 Sipke Shaughnessy competed in the junior men 200m.<\/span><\/p>\n

The previous day, the first round of the County \tTrack and Field Championships took place at the same venue. Again, Bandon AC \tathletes had some top performances on the day. At U19 level David Reynolds \twon the javelin and came third in the 100m. Patrick McSweeney won gold in \tboth the U18 javelin and hammer. Eric Stam won silver in the boys U17 100m \twith Great Okafer taking the bronze. Eric also won the discus and hammer and \twas second to Shane Howard in the pole vault. Daire Harrington won silver in \tthe hammer and discus. Robert O\u2019Sullivan won the U16 javelin. In the U15 \tcompetition, \u00a0Colin Kingston won the shot, discus, hammer and triple jump \tand was third in the100m.\u00a0 Promise Okafer came third in the long jump and \tFintan Shaughnessy won the pole vault. Oisin Walsh won the U13 hammer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Britney Okafor won the girls U9 60m with Niamh \tSugrue taking silver in the U9 ball throw.\u00a0 Carla Hicks won the girls U12 \tlong jump and came second in the 60m hurdles. Erin Kingston won the U13 \tdiscus with Kerri Buckley coming third. Sinead Caulfield won bronze in the \tU14 long jump.\u00a0 The Bandon team finished second in the U14 relay.\u00a0 Aisling \tEverard won gold in the U15 1500m.\u00a0 Laura McSweeney won the U16 discus and \tshot.\u00a0 Liz Prout won gold in the U18 300m.\u00a0 Aine Weldon won silver in the \tU18 1500m with Marianme Everett taking the bronze.On the road, Kevin Wilmot \tfinished 9th at the Castlemartyr 4 mile road race on Thursday 22nd April \twith Tom Laffan coming first O40.\u00a0 Tom Sheehan, Paddy Murphy and Declan \tO\u2019Halloran also competed.\u00a0 Phil Murphy ran in the recent London Marathon and \tcompleted the race in 3 hours 42 mins. <\/span><\/p>\n
