National League Results
A long day yesterday and an early start for a number of athletes who were on the Men’s and Womens team in the National League yesterday.
The womens team were contesting a tough pool in the Premier Division but performed well and are in a good position after the day and have good expectation of another solid performance in day 2 being enough to make the final in August.
The only win on the day came in the Shot Putt from Laura McSweeney who also finished 4th in the Hammer. One of the busiest athletes on the day was Roisin Howard who finished 2nd in Long Jump and 100m Hurdles and 4th in the High Jump and was also part of the 4*100m relay team. Other good performances from Phil Healy who was 2nd in the 100m & 4th in the 200m, Carmel McCarthy in the 1,500m and 3,000m, Grainne Moynihan (Guesting) in the 400m Hurdles and 400m, Rachel Roche (2nd Javelin), Fiona Duggan (3rd Discus), Priscilla O’Sullivan (Walk), Tracey Bradfield (Triple Jump), Aisling Everard (800m and 1,500 SteepleChase)
Also, there was some guest performances, Priscilla (Hammer and Discus), Tracey (Discus), Laura (Discus)
The men in the First Division had a slightly easier day partly due to the non arrival of some teams in their section and performed really well.
Highlight of the men’s team was a number of younger members bravely tacking events which would not have been their first choice and putting in some good performances.
Team included; Eric Stam (High Jump, Pole Vault, 110m Hurdles), Colin Kingston (100m, 200m), Jake Inglis (400m Hurdles and 800m), David Reynolds (Shot, Javelin, 400m), Ronan Duggan (1500m and 3000m SteepleChase), Robert O’Sullivan (Walk), Fintan O’Shaughnessy (Long Jump and Triple Jump) Frank Stam (Hammer, Discus), Patrick McSweeney (56lb).

National League & Munster Juv
Bandon’s Mens and Womens teams wil be in action in the first round of the National League in Tullamore on Sun.
The womens team finished 2nd in the Premier final last year and this year will also fielding a strong team with hope to making the final again and as we saw last year…in the final anything can happen!
This is the first time in a few years than Bandon had fielded a mens team and it will be a mainly youthful looking team as they contest the First Division but that doesn’t mean it won’t be packed with experienced athletes as they look to emerge from the pool stages and make the final.
Best of luck to both teams.
Closer to home, the cream of Bandon’s young athletes will be heading to CIT to contest the Munster u9-u13 T&F Championships so best of luck to all the athletes in action on Sat & Sun.
