Munster XC Relays

Munster Juvenile inter county XC relays. Feb 7th 2016, Enniskeane, Cork.
In what can only be described as horrendous weather conditions, wind, rain, and bitterly cold, 13 Bandon AC athletes
represented Cork last weekend, in the XC munster relays, over 3 age groups, u10, u12 & u14. The course was a 500m loop. The loop consisted of a nice little drag up one side, running into a strong head wind, across the brow at the top, turning into a downhill, wind at your back, and one last little hill before the changeover to test those tired legs. The u10s each ran  a 250m leg while u12/14 each ran the 500m loop. Amy McCarthy, Aoibhinn McKeogh, Dara Walsh, Charlie Twomey & Adam Barry were on the u10 teams that both got Gold. Callum McCourt was on the u12 team that got bronze. Jane Buckley, Olivia Tuthill, Nicola Tuthill, Fionn Harrington, Ruairi Harrington, Peter Ronan & Rory Desmond were on the u14 teams with the girls getting Gold and the boys Bronze. Bandon was well represented, with all the athletes putting in sterling performances helping Cork to medals in every age group. Thanks to all the parents who left nice cosy fires to cheer the athletes on, it really was an endurance test for the supporters too. Thank you also to the Draper family, especially Matthew who brought out extra bales of straw for us to sit on! The shuttle bus on the day was also a great idea. Thank you to all concerned.

All Ireland B XC

All-Ireland Bs Cross Country Championships, Sun 24th Jan 2016, Dudalk IT.
Bandon AC had 5 teams and 2 individuals make the long journey to Dundalk to compete in the All-Ireland Bs at the the end of January. It’s been a long season for these kids and most were rewarded with a medal or two on the day but ALL of them gave a mighty effort resulting in great performances all round and doing the club proud.
Our u11 teams got the show on the road. The girls team of Ciara O Sullivan, Ciara White, Niamh Quinn, Molly O Callaghan & Aoibheann Cotter secured Silver in the team medals and the boys team of Dara Ryan, Dara McCarthy, Joseph Buttimer, Sean Deasy & Ciaran Brady secured Gold. Joseph Buttimer & Niamh Quinn placed 2nd overall earning themselves an individual medal, along with Sean Deasy, 11th and Ciara O Sullivan 10th. Joseph, Sean, Niamh & Ciara also scored with the Cork team winning Bronze.
Next up was the u13 boys & girls. Again we had a team in each. Amy O Donoghue, Ellen Murphy, Lucy T McCarthy and Saoirse O Neill made up the girls team with Brid Desmond who unfortunately was sick and couldn’t travel. Keelan Crowley, Gavin Kelleher, Tim McCarthy, Ruairi Harrington, Rory Desmond & Sean M Kiely were our u13 boys team.  Both teams competed very well, even though at times the going got quite rough, especially in the boys race! Although, we didn’t come away with medals, the teams gave solid performances and can hold their heads high.
We had just one girl u15 and that was Katie Murphy. Katie ran out of age on the day and gave a great performance, placing 25th and coming away with a bronze Cork medal. Niall Desmond, Fionn Harrington, Peter Ronan & Gavin Kenny made up our u15 boys team. These boys ran a superb team race, packed well, placed 14,18,21 & 25 and earned a well deserved gold team medal for themselves. Fionn, Niall, Gavin also got gold with the Cork team, with Peter just missing out. In the u17 race, we again just had one individual and that was John Muckian. John finished off the day for Bandon AC and didn’t disappoint. He too put in a solid performance and a great effort to earn an individual medal, placing 12th. Well done to all the athletes and their parents. It was great to finish off the XC season on such a high note.

Bandon AC Committee Meeting FIT4LIFE Report Feb 2016

Bandon AC Committee Meeting FIT4LIFE Report February 2016 by Linda Hodnett
The 2nd February saw Bandon AC/FIT4LIFE attend a talk on Nutrition. This was given by Alison Kingston in Fionnuisce and proved very interesting
FIT4LIFE are seeing a steady increase in numbers and we are encouraging all FIT4LIFE Members to register and be insured
The 6th February saw 16 Members between Bandon AC and FIT4LIFE take part in the Clonakilty Waterfront 10K/Half Marathon/Marathon. FIT4LIFE were highly commended on how well they looked
The 14th February will see some of our Members supporting the Ciara O’Brien 5K Charity Walk. Ciara was the Girl who as a result of falling off the Roof of a night club in Kinsale was left Paralysed from the Waist down. When I asked the Ciara O’Brien Fundraising Committee was it just a walk – they replied by saying that they feel some people will run the 5K
The second of our local races takes place on the 28th February in Kilmacsimon. This is a race which will be attended by all – Beginners/Intermediates/Advanced. I will run the 7K with the Beginners – this being their first Race. There is the option of a 7K or 10K
Finally, I would like to ask Chairman, Vice Chair Person and my Fellow Committee Members the question of whether if FIT4LIFE Members both Walkers and Runners can join you in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade
FIT4LIFE promotes the importance of keeping fit and also highlights that we are belonged to something much bigger
FIT4LIFE have their own Identity with our new colours and stand out not only as individuals but as a whole and wear our Club colours with pride
I would appreciate your feedback on this Proposal made to you as a Committee
