Today 20th October we had the County Juvenile B, Masters & Novice ‘B’ Cross Country in Conna. We had 6 athletes competing today. We have been very fortunate to have such great weather this late in the year up to the county A’s last weekend. We started our journey with torrential rain when we got to the venue the condition of the ground was soft and with every race the ground was being cut up. We had 3 races for the club. To start with we had Aishling McKeogh running solo above her age in the under 11 girls. She ran a great race to come 23rd, it was all the more impressive that she ran on her own with none of her team mates present which is very brave. Next was the under 13’s which we had Fionn Harrington, Andrew O’ Leary, Paul Hartnett and Noel Brady. They all ran a great race, digging in and producing the goods with Fionn coming in with an impressive 8th position, it followed on with Andrew coming 14th as always putting in maximum effort. Noel was next with a 16th placing with Paul Coming in just after him in 17th. They totalled 55 points. This was good enough for Bandon AC to come first, this was well ahead of the next team Carrignafar. It was impressive to watch each athlete in this race put in maximum effort. Last but not least we have our last runner Ronnie Barry running in the women’s novice race. She started well with being in front at the start. Unfortunately she was passed by a north cork athlete stretching a 100mtre lead. Ronnie battled throughout the race to make up this distance but was unable to do so. These athletes lead the race from start to finish! It was a great race to watch. All athletes today represented the club well.
