National Championships 2023

Congrats to all Bandon AC Athletes who competed across the various National Championships in July. Ruby Cummins & Eoin O’Callaghan finished 1st in their respective combined events. Eoin also claimed double gold in the individual Nationals in the high jump & discus and also secured a bronze in the pole vault. Ruby placed 3rd in the 80mh at the Nationals her sister Leila Cummins put in a good performance in the U14 hammer to claim gold. Aoife Callan continued her success of the season to claim bronze in the U17 javelin and week after finishing 3rd at the SIAB schools international in Scotland, Aoife also placed 4th in both the long jump and triple jump. Sisters Olive & Lucy O’Flynn placed 2nd and 3rd in their respective long distance races. Aoife Tuthill placed 3rd in the U18 3k walk. At the Senior Championships Shane Howard placed 3rd in the long jump with consistent jumps, showing promise for the 2024 season after coming back from injury. Phil Healy placed 4th in the final of the 400m and Fiona Everard placed 12th in a packed 5000m race. Also competing on the day was Lauren McCourt & Gavin Kenny who both just missed out of the automatic qualifying for their respective 400m & 1500m. The U12 pair of Joel Cummins & Liam Verling placed 1st at the National Children’s Games in the turbo javelin. Aadora Nneameka continued her running success to claim another national sprints title in the U13 100m. Dylan French finished 4th in the U13 Shot Put just 20cm behind the medals which is a good achievement for just picking up the shot put this season. At the national JNR / U23 Lauren McCourt took the U23 400m title. Gavin Kenny finished 6th in the U23 1500m. Fiona Everard had a good run in the AAI games to finish 5th in the SNR 5000m.
