Coach Louis had arranged a colourful javelin exercise display before the first participants arrived. 13 took part in the morning “beginners” session and 9 in the afternoon “advanced” session, representing 6 county Cork clubs. The morning group had the luck of very pleasant weather, but the afternoon group had to endure more and more rain. The most important coaching instruction for both groups was to throw from the shoulder, this is rarely taught but yet so crucial for the developing athlete. The youngsters adapted quickly and had great fun throwing with the small Turbo javelins trying to hit targets. Many thanks to Louis Wildenboer for coming all the way down to Bandon to promote this ancient skill Lúine Celtchair, also thanks to Bandon Grammar School for making their great facilities available and of course Catherine for pulling it all together.
