Tadhg Twomey RIP
Bandon A.C would like to extend its sympathies to the Twomey and extended family on the passing of Tadhg Twomey. Tadhg was a member of Knocknacurra Ac and Bandon Ac for many years. He won many County, Munster and National medals throughout the 60s to 80s in a number of field events including long Jump, high jump and weight throws. He has held national senior records in the over bar weight and also the 56lb for Distance. Tadhg was presented with the Hall of Fame trophy at the club awards in 2011 for his outstanding success in the athletic field events. Tadhg has been named in the most prolific Irish Athletes of all times with 34 national Senior titles.
He will be a great loss to his family, friends and wider community.

PRO Report – 14th Oct
Results from Cork Athletics Senior, Junior and Juvenile Uneven ages Cross Country Championships. Hosted by West Muskerry in Carrigadrohid, Macroom on Sunday 13 th October last.
Girls under 9 placed first for Gold. Team comprised of Lily Clover, Saoirse O’Donovan, Kara Casey and Ava Bamford.
Boys under 9 also placed first (tied with Blarney AC but winners on best placed 4th scorer). Shane Murphy, Sam Molumphy, Ciaran Guinane and John Feheney made up the team. Shane won an individual medal for placing second.
Under 11 girls placed ninth overall. Maeve Dollard, Caoimhe O’Regan, Emma Trunwit and Doireann O’Donovan made up the team.
Under 11 Boys placed ninth. Team comprised of Cathal Murphy, Max Clover, Dara Duggan and Eanna Burke.
Under 13 Girls placed seventh. Aoife Callan, Lily Murphy, Emma Kingston and Natalia Dawidowicz.
Under 13 Boys placed first to receive Team Gold. Daniel Dollard and Adam Sexton placed first and second for individual medals. Eoin O’Callaghan and Daniel Dollard placed twelfth and twenty first respectively.
Under 15 Girls placed fifth overall. Well done to Ella Collins, Sinead Crowley, Emma Barry and Lucy O’Flynn.
Under 17 Boys results, Ruairi Harrington placed third and Ruairi Falvey placed fifth to win individual medals.
Senior women were in action too, with Fiona Everard placing sixth, Ann Bamford placed twelfth and Sheila Trunwit placed sixteenth.
Well done to everyone on what were fantastic results given the conditions were so wet and mucky.

AGM – 15th Nov
Notice is being given that the Bandon Athletic Club Annual General Meeting is being held on Friday 15th of November in the Munster Arms Hotel Bandon at 8pm.
All current adult (over 18) members and parent/guardians’ of juvenile members are invited to attend.
The AGM is an important event in the calendar so it would be great to see a a good turnout on the night.
A motions or nominations for the night should be with the secretary by Fri 8th Nov
PRO Report 7th Oct
Preparations are underway for our Annual Donough Coughlan 5k Roadrace on 27 th October next. Headquarters will be Bandon GAA pavilion where registration can take place, also prize giving and the serving of refreshments . Race will be chip timed. On line registration is also available. Carmel Crowley was the first female over the line at the recent Rosscarbery Steam Engine 5k road race which was in aid of Cancer Research. Well done to her.
Our cross country athletes were in competition at the Novice Junior Under 23 and Even Age Competition last weekend . Hosted by Liscarrol AC and Churchtown Road Runners AC in Liscarrol.
Results were; Under 10 Girls- silver team medal presented to Aisling Guinane, Ava Nyhan, Amy Holland and Olivia Broderick.
Under 10 Boys placed 9 th overall with Sean Murphy receiving an individual medal for placing fifth . Rest of team included Conor Walsh, Dylan Cronin and Colm Sexton.
Under 12 Girls placed seventh. Team was Ruby Cummins, Dilly Barry Twohig, Mia McGrath and Caoimhe O’Sullivan.
Under 12 Boys placed sixth overall with an Individual medal going to Cillian O’Flynn for placing fourth. Rest of team included Harry McCourt, Eoin Sexton and Cian Cronin.
Amy McCarthy and Aoibheann O’Sullivan ran well in the under 14 race where Amy won an individual medal for placing fourth with Aoibheann 32nd in a very competitive race.
Junior and under 18 Men race saw Fionn Harrington place fourth; Gavin Kenny placed fifth, Naoise O’Flaitheartaigh placed sixth and Ruairi Falvey place fifteenth. Under 18 Boys received Team Gold. Team comprised of Fionn Harrington, Gavin Kenny, Ruairi Harrington and Ruairi Falvey.

PRO Report 10th Sept
Several members competed in the first cross country session which was held in Riverstick at the end of August. It gave them a taste of what’s ahead ! Well done to everyone who competed and attended. West Cork Cross Country Championship will be hosted by Bandon AC on Sunday, 29th September next. Venue is the same as last year. Full directions are available on website. We aspire to retain the Perpetual Trophy for best overall Club. Therefore all Cross Country athletes are asked to attend and compete, to give us the best chance of retaining Title.
Our Annual Primary schools Cross Country event will be taking place in the Bandon Showgrounds on Friday 20 th September . We look forward to hosting this event every year and it’s also a fun filled memorable day for the schools taking part. We would like to thank Bandon Golf Club and Bandon Show Society Committee in advance, for the use of their amenities and for their valuable support.
Lastly, we have a date for our Annual Donough Coughlan Memorial 5k Road Race. It’s taking place on 27 th October next. Race hq will be Bandon GAA Club pavilion. Race starts at 11.30 sharp. Pre entry details will be announced soon as well as course details . Prize giving ceremony and refreshments will be in the GAA pavilion. Race will be chip timed.

5k Road Race 27th Oct *PreEntry now available
Bandon AC are please to announce that we will be hosting a 5k Road race on Sunday 27th Oct at 11:30am.
As well as individual and age category prizes, the winner will be presented with the Donough Coughlan Memorial Cup.
Course will cover similar ground to the previously held 5mile road race, but will run the other direction, so starting near the Bandon Mart and finishing at the Bandon GAA Pavilion.
This leads to a nice fast downhill finish so expect fast times!
Prize giving and refreshments in the GAA Pavilion afterwards, GAA pavilion will be race HQ for the day, so numbers to be collected there also.
Race will be chip timed and pre-entry is now available here, online registration ends 10/25/2019 9:30pm.
It will also be possible to register on the day, entry fee on the day will be €12.
Minimum age to take part is 15. (Have to have had 15th birthday)
