Munster Schools Combined Events results

Munster Schools Combined Events results – Report by Frank Stam

Four from the club competed, on a windy but sunny day, in CIT on 5 October and two managed to qualify from strong fields for the All Ireland Schools Combined Events (pentathlon) on 12 November in Athlone IT indoor sporting Arena.

Diarmuid O’Connor came 2nd in the Junior Boys with a new PB in the 60m hurdles and good performances in all his events. Aoibhin O’Connor, Intermediate Girls, also came 2nd with PBs in the 60m hurdles, shot putt, and 800m. Both will now have a chance to qualify for the Schools International Combined Events which will take place on the 10th of December in Athlone.

In the Minor Girls category Amy O’Donoghue scored PB’s in all her events, but could not take part in her 800m due to injury. In the Intermediate Boys David McInerney had a PB in his hurdles and ran a good 200m, but didn’t finish his long jump and 800m.

Well done all, so shortly after the summer break!

This year the Minor athletes had to compete in the same events as the other athletes, which requires an earlier competency in the hurdles and high jump. Something to keep in mind for next year.
