European U23

Well done to Phil Healy who ran a time of 11.81 to finish 4th in her heat in the European U23 T&F Championships on Thursday
Unfortunately her time was not enough to make the final and she placed 12th overall.

On Sun the Irish women’s 4x100m relay team which included Phil qualified for the final with a second place finish in their heat and a new U23 record of 44.68. They were unable to get the baton around in the final with a mixup in the first change over which unfortunately put a stop of their medal ambitions.

International Selection

Congratulations to James French & Laura Nicholson who have qualified to compete for the Irish Schools team in the Schools International on the 18th of July in Scotland.
James will contest the Shot Putt and Laura will contest the Steeplechase.

Both have previous International experience as James also competed in the Shot Putt last year in this event, and Laura was previously on an Irish Schools Cross County team

Wishing James & Laura the best of luck.

National u20/U23 results

The National u20 and u23 Track and Field Championships in held in a real mixed bag of weather yesterday, glorious sunshine mixed with heavy rain with thunder and lighting made for difficult conditions at times.
In the u20(Junior) events Scott Gibson continued his great form in the 400m and stormed to Gold. Bobby Smith continued his fine form in the Javelin with a Silver medal. Promise Okafor won Bronze in the Triple Jump and placed 4th in the Long Jump recording a new personal best. Colin Kingston won Bronze in the Shot Putt with a new personal best and placed 5th in the Discus. Travis Coomey won Bronze in the Weight for Distance and also placed 9th in the Hammer. Joey Henchy unfortunately was disqualified for false start in the 100m.
in the 4x100m relay team of Scott Gibson, Joey Henchy, Matthew Draper and Daniel Hathaway were unfortunately disqualified for a bad batton changeover when they had realistic ambitions of being amongst the medals.
The 4x400m team of JD O’Hea, Daniel Hathaway, Matthew Draper and James Dwyer finished outside the medals.
In the u23 age there was a double for the McSweeney siblings as both Patrick and Laura won the Shot Putt, Patrick also won Silver in the Weight for Distance while Laura placed 4th in the Hammer.
Phil Healy won Silver in the 100m final which was held in a heavy downpour.
