At the Cork County Junior and Senior Track & Field Championships in CIT on Sunday there was a number of successes for Bandon A.C. members.
In the Junior(under 20) events
Joey Henchy recorded a sprint double, winning both the 100m and 200m. Colin Kingston has double in the throws winning the Shot Putt and Discus. Pomise Okafor won the Triple Jump and placed 2nd in the Long Jump. Cameron Blair was 3rd in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Travis Coomey won the Junior Hammer, the Weight for Distance and was 2nd in the Discus and 3rd in the Shot Putt. Bobby Smith won the Javelin. Colin Deane was 2nd in the Shot Putt and in the Weight for Distance.
JD O’Hea won the 400m, placed 3rd in the Weight for Distance and 5th in the 100m. Joe Gibson was 6th in the 100m and Darragh Ryan placed 7th in the 100m.
In the Junior Girls age group.
Amy Crowley celebrated her 16th birthday by winning the Shot Putt. Kate Bernard won the 100m and Fiona Duggan won the Discus.
In the Senior Women’s events Laura McSweeney recorded a triple, winning Gold in the Shot Putt, Hammer and Discus.
While in the Senior Men’s age group Danny Allen was 2nd in the 400m.

Some interesting notes.
Bandon AC members had a clean sweep of the medals in two events, Junior Men’s Shot and Weight for Distance. In any throwing event which was contested by one of more Bandon athletes, Bandon won the Gold medal, making for an impressive 10 Gold medals in the throws.

Well done to all the athletes who competed last night in the 1st of the West Cork Summer League events, a great night was had by all with some really good competitions in a more relaxed environment that usual.
Well done to all the parents/coaches/officials who helped out on the night and ensured everything went off without a hitch.

Next Summer League is in Dunmanway (Rugby Club grounds) on Wed 1st July at 7pm, hoping for another great turnout.

Event will start at 7pm with the u10 sprints.
Entry is €3 at the gate

U10 – 80m, 300m, Turbo Jav, Relay
u12 – 100m, 600m, Long Jump, Relay
u14 – 100m, 800m, Shot Putt, Relay
u16 – 100m, 800m, Shot Putt, Relay

The first night of the 2015 West Cork Summer League is on in the Town Park Bandon at 7pm Wed 17th. Entry at the gate is €3. Open to athletes from any club in West Cork Athletics Region.
There will be a sprint, long distance and 1 field event per age group. events for u10, u12,u14, u16. The night will finish with relays which will be mixed up among the clubs.
A great time is in store, so hoping to see a big turnout.

u9’s can compete u10, u11’s can compete u12 etc.

Its the turn of the older athletes this weekend as the Munster u14-u19 Track and Field Championships is on in Waterford on Sat / Sun.
The venue is the Waterford RSC which is here ! for those who may never had competed their previously.
