Bandon Men’s team contested the 1st Round of the National Indoor League last weekend in Athlone.
Among the high lights were Joey Henchy finishing 2nd in the 60m and Promise Okafor finishing in 4th place in a very competitive long jump competition.
Ronan Duggan finished 8th in the 800m and also contested the Shot Putt.
There was no womens’ team, but Phil Healy did compete as a guest and ran in two 60m races, clocking times of 7.44 and 7.51 for good solid times at this early stage of the indoor season.
Well done to Mark O’Sullivan who has been selected on Men’s u23 team for next Sunday’s Celtic Cross-Country, in Dunboyne, Co. Meath.
This will be Mark’s first time wearing the green vest but having been close to selection on a number of occasions previously this is long overdue and well deserved.
Wishing Mark the best of luck on the day.

Great start for Bandon athletes in the 2015 Indoor athletics season
Five Bandon AC athletes competed successfully in the Munster Juvenile Indoor Combined Event Championships on January 4th in Nenagh. They all came home happy with many personal bests after a very long day. In the girls under 16 Ciara McKeon and Moira Barrett battled it out over 5 events and finished in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Ciara broke the club record in the 60m hurdles by almost a second (9.91) and also Moira (10.39) went under the old record by almost half a second. In the high jump both girls also improved on the existing club record with Ciara jumping 1.50m and Moira 1.44m. In the concluding 800m Moira set the pace and tried to beat the club record, but missed it by only 0.79 second. With very good allround performances both girls also broke the existing pentathlon record with Ciara scoring 2637 points and Moira 2516 points. In the girls under 15 a similar rivalry went on between Aisling Cassidy and Ella Stack and they also both got into the medals with Aisling coming 2nd and Ella 3rd. This was the first time for them running a higher and wider spaced hurdle spec and they both did very well with Aisling equalling the club record from Carla Hicks with 10.14s. She also had a good long jump with 4.62m just 12cm short of the club record. Ella excelled in the high jump with 1.50m and also had a good shot put (9.40m) with the heavier shot. The 800m was a tense affair with the threat of a strong middle distance runner in 4th place trying to push one of the girls out of their medal positions. But the hill training payed off and both girls managed to keep the gap small enough to hold on to their medals. As an extra reward they both also improved on the pentathlon record which Moira (2371 points) had set last year: Aisling with 2471 points and Ella with 2379 points. In the under 11 boys Eoghan Cassidy was competing, this involved 3 events: 60m, long jump and 600m. The format was different from last year, so we can’t compare scores, but Eoghan had a great long jump and broke Callum McCourt’s record by 7 cm (3.39m). Next up the National Juvenile Indoor Combined Events Championships in Athlone on 17 January, best of luck!
