National Senior T & F Results

Medals are never easy at senior level but some good performances from Bandon A.C athletes at the All-Ireland Senior Track & Field Championships in Santry stadium over the weekend.
In the Senior Women sprints Phil Healy was just outside the medals in the 200m finishing in 4th place and she also placed 5th in the 100m.
In the Senior Womens Shot Putt Laura McSweeney was in a medal position heading into the final round but finished in 4th place and she also contested the Hammer where she placed 5th.
Shane Howard was once again over 7m in the Senior Men’s Long Jump and finished in 4th place.
In the Senior men’s 100m Joey Henchy finished in 7th place in his heat and didn’t qualify for the final.
These 4 athletes are all under 20 and have many more years ahead of them and these performances all indicate sometime in the near future the club will be celebrating a few senior medals at these championships.

Patrick McSweeney was competing in the U23 age group in the Weight Over the Bar. Having won the u20 event the last 2 years, he continued his fine form in this rarely contested event.
With the competition won at 4.40m he went on to clear an impressive 5m before failing at 5.10m

**Updates**

Phil was equal second quickest overall in the first round and qualifies for the semi after winning heat two in 11.63.
She finished 2nd in her SF in a time of 11.92, qualified for the 100m final.
Phil finished in 4th place in the final in a time of 11.96. Fantastic achievement to achieve a top 4 placing at this level of competition.

200m
Phil lined up in the semi-finals of the 200m, less than 2 hours after her 100m final. However her exploits in the 100m left her just outside the qualifying positions as she finished in fourth place in a time of 24.44 so she didn’t progress to the 200m final.

Well done to Phil on what has been a very successful championships for her.

Munster Juvenile Development Games

Bandon AC athletes were on the road once again last Sunday, July 14th, when
they headed to Castleisland, Co. Kerry for the Munster Juvenile Development Games. Twelve athletes took part in total and in relatively cool weather conditions compared to what we’ve had recently, each and every one of the kids competed very strongly which resulted in some fine performances and personal bests for Eva O Connell U9, Tara & Jane Buckley U11, Lauren McCourt, Erin De Burka, Sarah O Connor, Andrew O Leary U12 and Aoife Buckely U14. The medals went to Amy o Dononghue U11, silver in the 60m dash and long jump; Ellie O Donovan U12, silver in the 80m dash and bronze for high jump; Paul Hartnett U13, silver in the long jump and high jump and Ella Stack, who got bronze in U13 high jump. These athletes now progress to the all Irelands which take place on August 11th. We wish the very best of luck to Amy, Ellie, Paul and Ella! Again, well done to all the athletes for their hard work and dedication and thank you to coaches and parents for helping them along the way.
