Half Marathon Info for walkers

We are delighted to offer an opportunity for walkers to join in this sports event being organised by Bandon Rugby and Bandon Athletic club on Saturday May 11th. As you know the event is organised to raise funds to further develop and support the young athletes across both clubs. All walkers must register in advance of the walk and registrations will be taken on the Friday evening before and on the morning of the walk up to 8:45am in the Bandon Rugby club.

We have looked at providing a safe walking route with a view to bringing walkers into finish area at around the same time as the main group of runners. This will give all a taste of the finish atmosphere. The walking route is about 7 miles long.

Walkers will commence at 9 am from Old Chapel and move in the Crossmahon direction. The walk will continue straight through the Crossmahon cross roads heading through Knockaveale and then taking right turn into Gaggin. Crossing the main N71 Bandon to Clonakilty road and heading in the direction of Baxters bridge the walkers will cross through Tanners cross. This junction at the 4 mile mark can provide a welcome break for walkers if they want to stop and watch some of the half marathon runners as they pass through heading on their way out to complete a lengthy loop of the Bandon countryside. From here moving towards Baxter’s Bridge the walk will turn back right in the direction of the recycling centre before turning left towards Bandon Golf Club. The walk will continue past Castlebernard entrance on the Castle Road to finish at Ballymoden Place.

The walkers will receive a goody bag and are invited back to the rugby club for well earned refreshments and will all be entered for a free spot prize draw. There will be a free bus service back from the finish area to the rugby club. The entry fee for walkers is 10 euro.

We look forward to seeing you on the day. Happy walking …..
