We had some fine performances by Bandon athletes in the Munster Junior & U23 Championships in CIT on Sunday 28.4.13.
The busiest athlete of the day was Patrick McSweeney in the U23 age group, who won Gold in each of Shot Putt, Hammer, Weight for Distance and Weight for Height, and won Silver in the Discus.
Phil Healy won Gold in the Junior womens 100m. Laura McSweeney won Silver in the Shot Putt and Bronze in the Hammer, and also placed 4th in the Discus. Colin Kingston won Gold in the Junior mens Shot and Silver in the Discus. Bobby Smith won Silver in the Junior mens Javelin. Fintan O’Shaughnessy was 4th in the Junior men’s Long Jump with Shane Howard 5th in the same competition. Joey Henchy was 5th in the Junior mens 100m. In the Mixed 4*100m relays a Bandon team finished 3rd.

There were 14 Juvenile athletes from Bandon AC competing in the Munster Combined Events from U11 to U16, also in CIT on Sunday.
They all competed very well, covering five events in what was a gruelingly long day. Mark Collins won Gold in Boys U11, Aisling Cassidy won Silver in Girls U13 and Moira Barrett won Silver in Girls U14. Also competing were Jane & Tara Buckley, Sarah O Connor, Ellie O Donovan, Laura Nicholson, Ciara McKeon, Aoife Buckley, Fionn Harrington, Andrew O Leary, Ruairi Harrington & Colin Deane, some of whom finished with points that would have earned them medals in previous years.
