On Sat 7th & Sun 8th June some of Bandon ACs younger athletes competed in the Munster U9-U11 team competition and U12-U13 individual competition. Despite the changing weather of sunshine,
thundery showers, thunder and even lightening, there were several personal bests and some fine performances by these athletes.
The U9-U11 group brought home 25 team and individual medals, and also had 4 winning relay teams. The U12-U13 group won 7 individual medals. As the standard was very high, this was a very impressive medal haul for the Club. The athletes medaled in a variety of areas including sprints, distance, relays, long jump, javelin and turbo javelin. It is worth mentioning that Bandon athletes medaled in every age group, from U9 all the way up to U13, in javelin and turbo javelin, resulting in 14 medals in this area alone – a fantastic achievement.
The U9-U11s are in action again on June 21st at the All Irelands in Tullamore. The U12-U13s who qualified will compete in All Irelands in July. A big thank you to all coaches and parents who travelled over the two days. The team spirit was just as evident amongst the adults, with everyone chipping in with gazebos, chairs, tents, tea and jellies, making us all as comfortable as possible – one big happy family!
