The National under 20 and under 23 Track and Field Championships was held in Tullamore on Sat, in what was at times very difficult conditions with heavy rain and strong winds, but Bandon athletes are made of tough stuff!
Gavin Hicks won Gold in the Weight for Distance, placed 5th in the Shot Putt and 7th in the Discus. The Junior men’s relay team of Scott Gibson, Joey Henchy, Daniel Hathaway and Matthew Draper won Silver. Joey Henchy was the unfortunate victim of a false start in the 200m.
In the Under 23 age group, Laura McSweeney continued her recent fine form with a Gold medal in the Shot Put and a Silver in the Hammer. Shane Howard was once again over the 7m mark in the u23 Long Jump and won a deserved Gold. Promise Okafor won Bronze in the Triple Jump.
