PRO Report: 5th Oct

Gráinne Mulcahy had a superb win over 1,000m in the girls U10 race at the even age County Cross Country Championships on 3rd Oct.  Held in Conna, it was a well organised course and the sun shone for the duration of the event.  Considering the new longer distances, everybody competed well on the day.  Conor Calnan still only U11 ran a great race at U12 level winning a well deserved silver medal.

The girls U10 team consisting of Gráinne Mulcahy, Fionnuala Murphy, 8th, Ella Stack, 12th, Cora Ní Gallchóir 23rd and Katie Collins, 33rd won a silver team medal but were unfortunately beaten into second place by a mere point. The girls U12 team took the team gold medal over a distance of 2,000m.  Moira Barrett was fifth, Carina Crowley, 6th, Laura Nicholson, 9th and Orla Fahy 15th.  Also running were Aoife Riordan, Ava Stack and Rebecca Early. Also winning a team gold medal were the U14 girls now running a distance of 3,000m.  Louisa Keane finished sixth, Ciara Houston 8th, with Fiona Everard following in 9th place. Sinead Caulfield came tenth, Mari Dineen 12th and Ingrid Burns 17th.

The boys U10 team were unfortunate to finish in fourth place.  Running well on the day were Ethan O’Connor, Brian McSweeney, Jack Lucey, Fionn Harrington, Jack Calnan, Aodh O Gallchóir and Callum Holden.

Conor Calnan led the boys U12 team to team gold over 2,000m. Victor Lovell came in fourth, Eamon O’Sullivan finished 6th. Also running were Michael Laffan, Conor Reynolds, Brian Riordan and Cyril Dineen.  The U14 boys team finished in fourth position.  Running at U14 level were Zach Harrington, Gerard Crowley, David Laffan and Diarmuid Kelly.  Mark O’Sullivan ran a good race at U18 level to finish in eighth position.

Three members from the club ran in the recent Cork Evening Echo Women’s Marathon on 26th September. Carmel Crowley finished in fifth place.  Sharon Toner and Kate Coveney also competed completing the 4 mile race in 30 mins approx with Sharon finishing ahead of Kate.

Coming up next Sunday 10th October is the County Novice, U23 and Masters Cross Country Championships.  The County Juvenile Uneven Age Championships will also be held on the same day.  The venue is Carrig na bhFear with a 12 noon start.  The Munster Novice, U23 and Masters Cross Country Championships will be held the following Sunday 17th in Carrigadroichead, Macroom.
