There was some very competitive finishes at the recent uneven age County Juvenile Cross Country Championships held in Carrig na bhFear on Sunday 10th October. The course was naturally sloping with a few testing hills, but with a fine downhill finishAisling Everard easily won the girls U15 race. Marie Dineen ran strongly to finish fourth in the girls U13 race with Fiona Everard finishing sixth. Also running were Ingrid Burns, 7th, Carina Crowley, Ava Stack, Aideen Lynch, Elsa Harte, Sarah McCarthy and Rebecca Earley and the team won the gold medal. Moira Barrett won an individual bronze medal at U11 level with Orla Fahy finishing in sixth place. Again the team took the gold medal. Laura Nicholson finished in 7th place and Ciara McKeon, Niamh Calnan, Kendra Kingston and Clodagh Young also ran well. The U9 girls team consisting of Niamh Sugrue, Cora Ní Ghallchóir, Sarah O’Connor, Stacey Komdaye and Erin de Burca, won the bronze team medal. Nathan Holding competed in the boys U13 race. Conor Calnan ran at a blistering pace to take the U11 bronze medal. He was followed home in quick succession by Christian Buttimer, 4th, Michael Laffan 5th and Aaron Draper 6th. After that fine performance, needless to say, Bandon won the team gold. Other team members included Brian O’Riordan, Cian Kingston, Conor Walsh, Daire Hurley and Naoise O Flahartaigh. The U9 boy’s team finished fourth and the team consisted of Fionn Harrington, Andrew O’Leary, Kyle Buttimer and Ciarán Reynolds.
Also taking place at the same venue were the County Novice, U23 and Masters Cross Country Championships. Carmel Crowley took an early lead cruising home to an overall win and gold in the F40 section in the Masters Women’s Race. Her time for the 3k run was 11.12. Priscilla O’Sullivan finished in third in the F45 category. Also competing at masters level were Sharron Toner and Kate Coveney. The team won the bronze medal.
Tom Laffan came third in the M40 section. Also competing was Fergus Wall. Ronan Duggan ran in the Novice men U23 race where he finished third.
