A number of Bandon AC athletes made the arduous trip to Derry for the Woodies DIY AAI Cross Country Championships at the weekend. The snow arrived in Derry as the races kicked off making for blizzard conditions during some races. Competing well at Juvenile level were Carina Crowley U12, Sinead Caulfield, Ciara Houston & Ingrid Burns U14, Gerard Crowley U14 and Mark O’Sullivan U18. Mark had an excellent run on the day. Carina finished in 39th place overall and was the sixth Cork girl in and won gold as part of the Cork team. Making it a family affair, Carina’s mum Carmel finished in 23rd place in the Senior Women’s race and was part of the Cork Team which won silver. Carina’s brother Gerard also ran very well at U14 level. Well done to all these athletes who are to be congratulated for their achievement in reaching All Ireland standard. They are also to be commended for making such a long trip in less than ideal conditions only to be faced with even more inclement weather during the races!
The Munster Master and Juvenile B Cross Country Championships were held in Dungarvan on 21st November. Carmel Crowley came in fifth overall and was first O40. She won a gold medal as part of the Cork team. Tom Laffan finished 3rd O4 and was sixth overall. He was also a gold medal winner on the Cork team. The club had a number of top twelve finishers in the Juvenile Championships.
Fiona Everard had a fine win in the U11 race and was also part of the gold medal winning Cork team. Niamh Sugrue was 9th at U9 level which also earned her a silver team medal.
