So…….
So………what do throwers do to relax when not throwing heavy objects around the place?
Well some of them lift even heavier objects!
At the Irish Drug Free Powerlifting Association national championships in Dublin last weekend there was 2 prominent throwers from the club in action as members of UCC Powerlifting Club
Laura McSweeney won her category in both the Bench Press and the Deadlift competitions, her lifts were both new National Records and qualified her for the World Championships in June.
Although it wasn’t possible to set World records at the event, both her lifts were better than the current World records for her category, so will head to World Championships as a real contender in both events.
Patrick McSweeney placed 3rd in his category in the Squat and 4th in both Bench Press and Deadlift events.
Well done to both.

Club Anniversary
The club celebrated its 50th Anniversary on the 30th of January and the club marked the occasion with a celebration in the Lodge Bar.
A number of original and current members started the night with a brief moment of reflection at the site of the original meeting which was in the old Boys Club venue on North Main Street, they then progressed to the Lodge Bar where a large number of people joined in the celebrations.
Chairman Tom Laffan acted as master of ceremonies for the brief formalities introducing Mayor Of Bandon Deirdre Lane and Bill Allen who was representing both West Cork Athletics board as Chairman and also the Cork County Board in his position as Vice Chairman. Then Billy Good who was one of the original founding members and still very much involved in club activities on a daily basis reflected on the events which lead to the founding of the club and various key dates in the club history.
Billy was then joined by a number of other founding members to join in the cutting of the cake.
